Positive Climate News from May
May is up and here, gathered for you, is the positive climate news
As ever there are sadly no shortage of bad news on the climate front. This is a dose of hope to inspire action that we can and still must act. (I’m using the same format I used to report on events in April) This time I’m grouping them into Climate Politics and Climate Energy stories.

Climate Politics
The first one is that Mexico just went and elected a Climate Scientist as President. Be interesting to see what follows?
The US state of Vermont passed a law requiring oil companies to pay the costs of climate damage.
The European Central Bank is going to impose fines on banks for climate failures
Another positive for common sense energy; Conservative groups fail to halt US’s largest offshore wind farm
While Liberals and Conservatives may differ, there is much more common ground on taking action
Climate Technology & Energy
Clean energy investments are now overtaking fossil fuel ones
Wyoming, a state known for coal, just approved a $1.2B solar farm
Texas is becoming a clear energy power-house adding a huge amount of solar capacity, so must that it outstrips any other state.
Linked to renewable energy, despite recent press stories, the shift to EV in the car market is actually going well
California also continues to amaze with 54 consecutive days has exceeded demand with supply.
Add this adds up! “‘Turning point in energy history’ as solar, wind start pushing fossil fuels off the grid.”
Wind farms are pretty good at generating power and they offset emissions in around two years.
A link to a list within a list! 5 recent scientific advancements that could change how we power the world
Also worth a listen is Tom Steyer discussing his new book, 'Cheaper, Faster, Better: How We’ll Win the Climate War' on Fast Politics
PS. A note on why some action matters more than none - because every point of a degree of warming stopped, will make a difference.
PPS. A reminder that your vote matters and you can use it to impact the climate!
